Part of a segment looking back on the year that was 1996. At the time Gary was a rising star in Nashville. There’s some old news here – he’s still married to Amy – but the parts with his co-star, daughter Sarah, make this one of my favorites.

When I was 14 years old (many years ago), I went to 4 Amy Grant concerts and Gary Chapman was performing in 2 of them. The first one with Gary, they weren't even married yet, but anyone could tell that there was something between them. Anyway, I always liked Gary's voice, but never really got into his music. He had 2 songs that I liked from his first album, but other than that, I couldn't really "feel" his tunes. I always wished he could get with more polished writers and better band mates to kick things up a notch, but it never happened. Oh well…I hope he's doing well anyway because he always seemed liked a nice enough guy who deserved more recognition for his voice than he ever received.
Oh come on, it was totally irony – making the point that she was having great success. It was in no way a dig. And he wrote some of her BEST songs…he's an amazing songwriter.
He was once arrested for drunk driving. That should answer a lot of people's questions. I'm not judging the guy, or Amy, but alcohol can be a real scourge to any relationship.
I think you nailed it. Hopefully, he's moving on now.
@MarquisEstelle Hi – Thanks for the comment, but I don't think it was a dig. Gary was using a little irony to acknowledge Amy's amazing success.
Needs a lift?? Every interview, he always takes a dig at Amy. How lacking in class. No wonder she was unhappy with him. So what's his career done…?? Not much.
1:15 uh…what does that mean LOL?
@hardiyahoo Hi. It's from the Forrest Gump soundtrack.
What is the name of this tune @ 1:40 when Gary speaks of his daughter Sarah???
It is the theme from a movie – bugs me to no end……I know it but cannot bring it up front in the mind……..
@dollbabymelissa LOL…. clue phone ringing… it's for you!
Totally beautiful photographs, I feel the love of the Heavenly Father when I see Gary hold his daughter. Too bad him and Amy divorced, FOR WHATEVER REASON. God loves them both and their families! Olivia in Nova Scotia, Canada
I liked Gary best on TV!!! He's a hoot. I hope his personal life is all good today, life brings so many crazy twists and turns. Still love Amy too. Since he and Amy went their separate ways, haven't heard much from him, but it's time he come back and get back on the saddle, and ride back in to town, we love and miss him, too.
Gorgeous man, inside and out.
Beautiful song Gary, I love ya man. Peace.
Sarah is so cute! she looks like her mom so much! love how he uses pix of his sarah and himself…so sweet
gary is very talented and insightful and kind
Gary wrote Amys' first song, father's eyes…he is accomplished in his own right. i love amy, but she is not angel either, none of us are…leave gary alone.
GOD BLESS YOU GARY, WE LOVE YOU!
i don't understand some chstians!!why do they judge people!??its a shame
Come on now…Gary clearly was kidding about living in Amy's shadow back then. He did not mean she actually needed his help….
I pulled out some of his old songs (on cassette) & listened to a few of Gary's golden moments. He is a talented song writer. I even got out my guitar to play a few of his songs. Thanks for sharing the video.
Falling out of love with someone is not a choice… it happens. People don't just wake up and say… gee I dont want to love you anymore.
